# Events

The Events API tracks and manages interactions between contacts or users within Brevo. An event can represent any action a Brevo user performs on a Brevo object — for example, updating contacts or sending an email.

> **Note**
>
> `GET /events` currently only supports custom events.

Use events to:

* Log important events in the system and track the history of a contact.
* Segment the contacts database by behaviour.
* Trigger automation workflows.

### Pre-requisites

You need an API key to access the Events API endpoints on the **[API reference](/reference/create-event)**. To get an API key, see the **[guide](/docs/how-it-works#quick-start)** for retrieving the API key from your user account.
